Question by abe_cooldude: Court Judgment AGAINST me – Please HELP!!!!?
I am being sued for a car accident that happened almost two years ago and have been served and got civil summons paper. I was fully insured at the time of the accident, but the amount they are asking for is almost 200k over my limits. I live with my mom, who is widowed, and works as a housekeeper for minimum wage. I recently graduated from college and just started working with little saved up, and we don’t have any thing of our own as we just moved to the U.S. about 9 years ago. I am extremely worried if the insurance company can’t settle and if the case goes to trial and if there’s a judgment against me, i have no way of paying up the extra 200k over my insurance limits. the bank account i have is a joint account with my mom with less than a grand, but have a CD of about 5000 with both of your name. if there’s a judgement against me, can they garnish that? that’s the only savings i have :'( we are soo worried.. and mom can’t help but cry… she literally works sweat and blood to give me education and look after me and don’t want to loose what little we have saved up.. is it ok to take my name out from that cd and just have it under her name? our better break the cd and withdraw the money? if we do that, is there a limit on how much i can withdraw because seems like 5000 would be too much at once? please advice we both are nervous wrecks right now and she’s old can’t help but worry 🙁

Usually if you cash in a cd before the due date, you lose 3 months of interest. You should contact a bankruptcy attorney and see what your options are.
